East Setauket
has a number of different programs to meet the needs of the children in
the local communities. We offer a day care program to meet the
childcare needs of typically developing children ages six weeks to five
years. We also offer an integrated preschool program. In
this model typical children as well as some children with special needs
are educated side-by-side using a curriculum specifically developed to
enhance all children's development in cognition, communication, social
and physical development. For children with special needs who
require a smaller class setting, we offer 12:1:1, 6:1:1 and 6:1:2 class
ratios. In these classes, the number of children is limited to 12
and 6 respectively with a dual certified early childhood/special
education teacher and a classroom assistant or aide. Each program
is specifically tailored to offer a developmentally appropriate
environment where children can develop skills in all areas.
The program
runs from September to June with a six week summer session available.
There is an outdoor play area and a school nurse available for any
medical needs that might arise. Weekly classes are offered to all
students in music and dance-movement and each classroom is equipped with
a computer. A healthy snack is provided without cost to all
students. The curriculum follows best practices in early childhood
education and offers a child-centered environment where children are
encouraged to develop critical and creative thinking skills.
