| Early Intervention Program
Early
Intervention is available to children from birth through three years of
age who meet eligibility requirements.
Early Intervention programs are regulated and funded by the New
York State Department of Health, along with Suffolk County Division of
Services for Children with Special Needs.
Alternatives For Children’s Early Intervention Program has been
providing quality services to children with diverse needs since 1988,
and offers initial evaluations and a variety of services throughout Initial evaluations assess the
child’s communication, cognitive, physical, adaptive, and
social-emotional development. If
it is determined a child is eligible for Early Intervention services, a
team of professionals works together with the child’s family.
An Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) is developed and
reviewed, and periodically updated to monitor and accommodate the
child’s progress as well as the family’s needs. In addition to initial evaluations,

Social Skills Groups Early Intervention services are typically delivered in the most natural setting for the child, such as the child’s home or daycare. Sometimes, however, a child may benefit from a more structured setting. Alternatives For Children always offers a comprehensive center-based, option as appropriate. The group is limited to ten children who attend for two and a half hours a day. The duration and frequency of days is determined at the IFSP meeting. Depending upon the needs of the child, therapeutic services may be delivered at the center, the home, or a combination of both. All Early Intervention Programs and services are aimed at assisting each child reach his or her potential.
Preschool
Special Education Program Alternatives
for Children provides a special education program for Preschool Children
with Special needs, age 3 years to 5 years of age.
The program is funded via the New York State Department of
Education and the Suffolk County Division of Services for Children with
Special Needs. A
comprehensive evaluation is first conducted to assess each child’s
unique needs across academic, social, and motor domains.
Then, in coordination with the local school district, an
Individual Education Plan is developed.
A determination of class size and ratio, program length and
duration, and nature and frequency of services will also be made. Our classes
include both self-contained settings, along with both morning and
afternoon integrated class sessions.
The integrated classes offer children with disabilities an
opportunity to learn and grow alongside their typically developing
peers. Emphasis on learning is placed on the acquisition of pre-academic
skills, socialization with peers and adults pursued through the
child’s natural venue for learning, play.
An enriched program is offered to students that provides a firm
foundation and preparation for entry into Kindergarten and school-age
integrated settings. |
